5-Star Reviews

Every roof installed by Right Hand Roofing is protected by two layers of warranty coverage: an Owens Corning manufacturer warranty on materials and a Right Hand Roofing workmanship warranty on labor and installation. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor (ID #244515), we offer warranty tiers that most roofing companies in Summerville cannot provide, including enhanced coverage that extends to both materials and workmanship under a single manufacturer-backed guarantee. Call (843) 696-9307 or contact us to discuss warranty options for your project.

A roof is one of the largest investments you will make in your home. The warranty that protects that investment should be clear, specific, and enforceable. This page explains exactly what is covered, for how long, under what conditions, and what steps are required to maintain or transfer your warranty coverage.

We have written this page to be direct and detailed. If you are the type of homeowner who reads the fine print before signing, this page is for you. If you are planning to sell your home within the next several years, pay close attention to the transferability section — your warranty coverage can add measurable value to your home at resale.

Right Hand Roofing, owned and operated by Tristan Carter, is licensed in South Carolina (#65625), insured for over $1 million, and is a member of the Better Business Bureau. Our Owens Corning Preferred Contractor status is not a marketing label. It is a designation earned through factory-verified training, adherence to installation standards, and a demonstrated track record of quality work.

OWENS CORNING MANUFACTURER WARRANTY TIERS ============================================================ –>

Owens Corning Manufacturer Warranty Tiers

Owens Corning offers tiered warranty coverage based on the roofing products installed and the contractor’s certification level. Because Right Hand Roofing holds Preferred Contractor status, our customers have access to enhanced warranty tiers that are not available through standard, non-certified installers. Below is a detailed explanation of each tier.

Preferred Protection Limited Warranty

The Preferred Protection Limited Warranty is available when an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor installs qualifying Owens Corning shingles with at least three qualifying Owens Corning accessory products (such as underlayment, starter shingles, hip and ridge shingles, or ventilation).

  • Shingle coverage: Limited lifetime coverage on manufacturing defects for the original homeowner. “Limited lifetime” is defined by Owens Corning as the duration of the original owner’s ownership of the home, subject to the terms and pro-ration schedule in the warranty document.
  • Workmanship coverage: 10 years of workmanship coverage backed by Owens Corning, not just the installing contractor. This means that even if a workmanship issue arises, the manufacturer stands behind the claim.
  • Wind warranty: Up to 130 mph wind coverage when applicable shingles and installation methods are used, for the duration specified in the warranty certificate.
  • Algae resistance: 10-year algae resistance limited warranty on qualifying shingle lines.
  • Tear-off and labor: Covers the reasonable cost of labor to remove defective shingles and install replacement shingles during the applicable coverage period.

What this tier requires: Installation by an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor (Right Hand Roofing qualifies), use of at least three qualifying Owens Corning accessory products, and registration of the warranty within 30 days of installation completion.

Platinum Protection Limited Warranty

The Platinum Protection Limited Warranty is the highest level of warranty coverage Owens Corning offers through its Preferred Contractor network. It requires the use of qualifying Owens Corning shingles along with four or more qualifying Owens Corning accessory products.

  • Shingle coverage: Limited lifetime coverage on manufacturing defects for the original homeowner, identical in scope to the Preferred Protection tier.
  • Extended workmanship coverage: 25 years of workmanship coverage backed by Owens Corning. This is the key differentiator from the Preferred Protection tier — workmanship coverage extends from 10 years to 25 years.
  • Non-prorated period: During the non-prorated period specified in the warranty certificate, Owens Corning covers the full cost of replacement materials and labor without depreciation.
  • Wind warranty: Up to 130 mph wind coverage (same as Preferred Protection, with applicable shingle and installation requirements).
  • Algae resistance: 25-year algae resistance limited warranty on qualifying shingle lines.
  • Tear-off and labor: Full coverage of labor for tear-off and reinstallation during the applicable coverage period.

What this tier requires: Installation by an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, use of four or more qualifying Owens Corning accessory products, and warranty registration within 30 days of installation completion.

System Protection Limited Warranty

The System Protection Limited Warranty applies when a homeowner selects a complete Owens Corning roofing system — meaning shingles plus all major roofing components (underlayment, starter strip, hip and ridge, ventilation, and ice and water barrier where applicable) are Owens Corning products.

  • System-wide material coverage: Unlike the Preferred and Platinum tiers, which focus primarily on the shingles with accessory requirements, System Protection covers the entire roofing system as an integrated unit.
  • Shingle coverage: Limited lifetime on manufacturing defects.
  • Accessory coverage: Each Owens Corning accessory product is covered under its own specific warranty terms, and the system as a whole is covered for integrated performance.
  • Workmanship coverage: Duration depends on the number of qualifying components and the contractor’s certification level. With Right Hand Roofing’s Preferred Contractor status, System Protection workmanship coverage is at the enhanced level.

What this tier requires: Use of Owens Corning products for all major roofing system components, installation by a certified contractor, and warranty registration within 30 days.

Important Notes About All Owens Corning Warranty Tiers

  • Registration is mandatory. Right Hand Roofing registers your warranty on your behalf within 30 days of installation completion. We also provide you with a copy of the registration confirmation for your records.
  • Coverage begins on the date of installation completion, not the date of purchase or the date of registration.
  • Pro-ration applies after the non-prorated period. Once the non-prorated period ends (the specific duration is stated in your warranty certificate), coverage is reduced on a pro-rated schedule. The non-prorated period varies by product line and warranty tier.
  • Warranty claims require documentation. Retain your installation contract, warranty certificate, and registration confirmation. Right Hand Roofing provides all of this documentation at project completion and also stores a digital copy in our records.
  • Improper ventilation can void coverage. Owens Corning warranties require that the attic ventilation meets minimum standards. Right Hand Roofing assesses and addresses ventilation as part of every roof installation.
RIGHT HAND ROOFING WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY ============================================================ –>

Right Hand Roofing Workmanship Warranty

In addition to the Owens Corning manufacturer warranty, Right Hand Roofing provides our own workmanship warranty on every roof installation. This warranty covers the quality of our labor and installation practices independently of the manufacturer’s coverage.

What Our Workmanship Warranty Covers

  • Installation defects: Any issues resulting from improper installation of roofing materials, including shingles, underlayment, flashing, drip edge, ridge vent, and starter strip.
  • Flashing failures: Leaks or water intrusion caused by improperly installed flashing at valleys, walls, chimneys, pipes, skylights, or other roof penetrations.
  • Nail placement and fastener issues: Problems caused by incorrect nail placement, overdriven or underdriven nails, or insufficient fasteners.
  • Ventilation installation: Defects in the installation of ridge vents, box vents, or other ventilation components we installed as part of the roofing project.
  • Cleanup failures: If debris, nails, or materials from our installation cause damage to your property after we leave the job site, we will return to address the issue at no cost.

Duration of Coverage

Right Hand Roofing’s workmanship warranty covers our installation for a period of 10 years from the date of installation completion. This coverage is in addition to any workmanship coverage provided by Owens Corning under the applicable manufacturer warranty tier.

What Our Workmanship Warranty Does Not Cover

  • Damage from severe weather events: Damage caused by hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, or wind speeds exceeding the rated wind warranty of the installed shingles. These events are covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy.
  • Alterations by other contractors: If another contractor modifies, penetrates, or works on the roof after our installation without our knowledge and written approval, the workmanship warranty is voided for the affected area.
  • Failure to maintain: If debris is allowed to accumulate on the roof to the point where it causes damage (for example, leaves packed in a valley that cause water backup), the resulting damage is not covered.
  • Structural issues: Pre-existing structural deficiencies in the roof deck or framing that were not identified during our pre-installation inspection and were concealed from visual observation.
  • Normal wear and aging: Cosmetic changes such as minor color variation, granule loss consistent with the shingle’s age, or moss and algae growth are not defects covered by the workmanship warranty.

How to Maintain Your Workmanship Warranty

  • Keep gutters and roof valleys clear of accumulated debris.
  • Trim overhanging branches that contact the roof surface.
  • Do not allow other contractors to penetrate or modify the roof without contacting Right Hand Roofing first.
  • Report any suspected installation issues promptly rather than allowing them to worsen.
WARRANTY TRANSFERABILITY ============================================================ –>

Warranty Transferability: Coverage When You Sell Your Home

If you are planning to sell your home within the next several years, warranty transferability is a critical factor in the value of your roofing investment. A transferable warranty makes your home more attractive to buyers and can be a tangible selling point during negotiations.

Owens Corning Warranty Transfer

Owens Corning manufacturer warranties are transferable to the first subsequent owner of the home, subject to the following conditions:

  • Transfer must be requested within 60 days of the property’s closing date. Owens Corning requires that the new homeowner (or the selling homeowner on their behalf) submit a warranty transfer request within this window.
  • Coverage is reduced upon transfer. The transferred warranty converts from “limited lifetime” to a defined-term warranty. The specific term depends on the warranty tier and the date of original installation. Typical transferred coverage ranges from 20 to 40 years from the original installation date.
  • Transfer is available to the first subsequent owner only. If the home is sold a second time, the warranty does not transfer again.
  • A transfer fee may apply. Owens Corning may charge a nominal administrative fee for processing the warranty transfer.

What this means for sellers: If you have a roof installed by Right Hand Roofing with a Platinum Protection warranty and sell your home five years later, the buyer receives a transferred warranty with decades of remaining coverage. This is a documented, verifiable asset you can present during the sale.

Right Hand Roofing Workmanship Warranty Transfer

Our workmanship warranty transfers automatically to the new homeowner when the property is sold, for the remainder of the original 10-year warranty period. No transfer request or fee is required. The new owner simply needs to contact us if a workmanship issue arises, and we will honor the warranty on the same terms as the original homeowner.

Steps to Transfer Your Warranty at Sale

  1. Gather your documentation. Locate your Owens Corning warranty certificate, registration confirmation, and Right Hand Roofing installation contract. If you cannot find these documents, contact us and we will provide copies from our records.
  2. Include warranty information in your home’s disclosure or listing. Provide the warranty details to your real estate agent so they can present it to prospective buyers.
  3. Submit the Owens Corning transfer request within 60 days of closing. This can be done online through Owens Corning’s website or by contacting their warranty department directly. We can assist you or the new homeowner with this process.
  4. Provide the new homeowner with all warranty documentation. Include the original warranty certificate, transfer confirmation, and Right Hand Roofing’s contact information.

If you have questions about warranty transferability at any point, whether you are preparing to list your home or simply want to understand your options, call us at (843) 696-9307. We are happy to walk you through the process.

HOW TO FILE A WARRANTY CLAIM ============================================================ –>

How to File a Warranty Claim

If you believe you have a warranty issue with your roof, follow these steps to initiate a claim.

For Workmanship Issues (Right Hand Roofing Warranty)

  1. Contact Right Hand Roofing directly. Call (843) 696-9307 or submit a contact form. Describe the issue and when you first noticed it.
  2. We schedule an inspection. A member of our team will inspect the roof, identify the cause of the issue, and determine whether it falls under workmanship warranty coverage.
  3. Repair is completed at no cost. If the issue is a covered workmanship defect, we perform the repair at no charge to you. We will document the repair and update your project file.

For Material Defects (Owens Corning Manufacturer Warranty)

  1. Contact Right Hand Roofing first. Even though the manufacturer warranty is administered by Owens Corning, we recommend starting with us. We inspect the roof, document the issue, and help determine whether it is a material defect or an installation issue.
  2. We assist with the Owens Corning claim process. If we confirm a material defect, we help you file the claim with Owens Corning, including providing installation documentation, photos, and our professional assessment.
  3. Owens Corning reviews and approves the claim. The manufacturer may send their own inspector or rely on our documentation. Once approved, Owens Corning authorizes the replacement materials and, depending on your warranty tier, the labor for reinstallation.
  4. Right Hand Roofing performs the warranty repair. As your original installing contractor, we perform the replacement work to maintain consistency and quality.

Response time: Right Hand Roofing responds to warranty inquiries within two business days. Emergency issues such as active leaks are prioritized and addressed as soon as possible.

FAQ ============================================================ –>

Frequently Asked Questions About Roof Warranties

What is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a workmanship warranty?

A manufacturer warranty (from Owens Corning) covers defects in the roofing materials themselves, such as premature shingle failure, manufacturing defects, or algae resistance issues. A workmanship warranty (from Right Hand Roofing) covers defects in how those materials were installed, such as improper flashing, incorrect nail placement, or inadequate sealing. You need both to be fully protected.

Does a “limited lifetime” warranty really last a lifetime?

Owens Corning’s “limited lifetime” warranty covers the shingles for as long as the original homeowner owns the home, but coverage is pro-rated after the initial non-prorated period. This means that in the early years, you receive full replacement value. After the non-prorated period ends, the coverage amount decreases over time on a defined schedule. The specific pro-ration schedule is detailed in your warranty certificate.

Will my warranty be voided if I have satellite dishes or solar panels installed?

Any roof penetration made after installation should be performed by a qualified contractor following proper flashing and sealing protocols. If another contractor penetrates the roof improperly and causes a leak, that specific area may not be covered under the workmanship warranty. We recommend contacting Right Hand Roofing before any post-installation roof work to discuss how to preserve your warranty coverage.

What happens to my warranty if Right Hand Roofing goes out of business?

Your Owens Corning manufacturer warranty is backed by Owens Corning, a publicly traded Fortune 500 company, and remains in effect regardless of the installing contractor’s business status. The enhanced workmanship coverage provided through the Preferred Protection or Platinum Protection tiers is also backed by Owens Corning, not solely by the installing contractor. Our separate Right Hand Roofing workmanship warranty would be affected, but the manufacturer-backed coverage remains intact.

How do I know which warranty tier I have?

Your warranty tier is determined by the products installed and is documented on your Owens Corning warranty certificate, which we provide at project completion. If you are unsure which tier applies to your roof, contact us with your address or project date and we will look it up in our records.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my home?

Yes. The Owens Corning manufacturer warranty is transferable to the first subsequent homeowner, provided the transfer is requested within 60 days of the property’s closing date. Coverage terms are adjusted upon transfer. Our Right Hand Roofing workmanship warranty transfers automatically with no fee or paperwork required. See the Warranty Transferability section above for complete details.

Does my warranty cover storm damage?

Manufacturer warranties cover material defects, not storm damage. Damage from wind, hail, falling trees, or other weather events is covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. However, if a storm reveals a pre-existing material or workmanship defect, that underlying defect may be covered under the applicable warranty. Contact us after any storm to have the roof inspected — we will help you determine whether the issue is a warranty matter, an insurance claim, or both.

Do I need to have my roof inspected regularly to maintain the warranty?

Neither the Owens Corning warranty nor our workmanship warranty requires paid annual inspections to remain valid. However, both warranties do require that you maintain the roof in reasonable condition, which means keeping gutters clear, removing accumulated debris, and addressing obvious issues promptly. We recommend a visual inspection from the ground after major storms and a professional inspection every three to five years as good practice.
